There’s a short list of politicians and generals who’ve met with President-Elect Donald Trump in the last few weeks to earn cabinet positions. Mitt Romney, David Petraeus, and Rudy Giuliani have all appeared in the news recently after meeting with Donald Trump to discuss cabinet positions as The Donald attempts to translate his intentional politically ignorant campaign into a functioning presidential administration in a little over two months.

The task of assembling an administration requires the president-elect to appoint both cabinet members and more than 4,000 other appointees needed to run everything from the EPA to the DOD. With the ultimate political outsider having won the election, it comes as no surprise that the task of replacing these crucial federal employees wasn’t the first thing on the president-elect’s docket. Add on the fact that the Trump campaign seemed to have been going through the motions of transition prep while expecting to lose, and you have a scenario where the new administration has to look in some unexpected places to fill out its roster.

Which brings us to the transition website greatagain.gov, a real site featuring news about Trump and Pence, some of his policy plans, a feedback box labelled “how do you want to make america great”, and a link to apply for appointment-only jobs within the Trump administration. Two and half weeks ago I clicked that link and submitted my resume, cover letter, and a list of positions (positions were listed, you just check them off) and applied for policy and management positions in the departments of justice, state, and transportation.

I had originally designed my application directly towards the secretary of state job, but it seemed foolish to put a joking resume out into the public record, especially considering I’ve no idea how I’ll assemble my cabinet in 2036.

At this point I have yet to hear back from the president-elect, and I am beginning to suspect that he has not yet read my application. However, I remain optimistic that the people they’re looking for to run major agencies are 19 year old Hillary supporters with a resume that needs to include high school clubs to make it to two pages. Which is how I ended up on the very long list for secretary of state.
