Miami: the non donut bits

As many of my readers (Hi Mom!) are no doubt aware, I am currently in Miami for spring break. With Cleveland hovering in the low 20s and the mid-atlantic not much better, it turns out that a getaway to the high 70s and warm oceans was basically the best possible decision I could’ve made for break. Is it the perfect vacation? No. But I’m not here to complain- I’m here to catalogue my actions on the internet so as to create a digital record of my coolness.

So what’ve I been up to?

The school booked us a hotel in downtown Miami, which is notable for having a lot of tall buildings that don’t quite look like a real city and being too far from the beach to walk there in a reasonable period of time. Which hasn’t stopped me. So far, I’ve woken up at 9 every day and walked to breakfast, the first couple of times at a combination of Panther Coffee and True Loaf Bakery, once at The Salty Donut , and today at a place called Bachour Bakery and Bistro, which, despite being expensive and serving rather small pastries, delivered a mean Kouign-Amann.

Mmmm

Basically, my vacation, in standard Bendon fashion, has consisted mostly of walking from meal to meal. I have eaten sushi, tacos, the best chips in the whole damn world, a cuban sandwich, a chicken sandwich from Bubba Gump’s house of stupidity that made me miss the world baseball classic which only happens once every four years and it was USA Canada that I’m not bitter about at all, and pizza. I linked to the places worth visiting if you’re in Miami. Those of you who are my parents will recognize them as places we have already been, but I’m a creature of delicious habit, so that’s what you get.

Donut day was also Wynwood exploration day, during which I explored the formerly run down manufacturing district that has become a hip urban area as a result of it’s massive collection of outdoor murals and street art, known as Wynwood Walls. I had visited the Walls themselves last year with my family, but there was something special about visiting them again now that the Zika virus has been discovered in the neighborhood (I really like the Zika joke). In addition to exploring the walls and taking a brand new facebook profile picture, I also spent some typing words onto my computer as though I was an inspired young writer and not just using my laptop to recharge my phone.

And I Find It Kind Of Funny, And I Find It Kind Of Sad

Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Miami without a trip to the beach, and I’ve done several of those. Not only has the water been warm and almost 30 percent not filled with seaweed, but my friends have actually tagged along for a couple of those visits. Did it hurt that I was also able to offer them entrance into my favorite beach-front hotel’s hot tub and swimming pool? No, it did not. Have I hung out in that unnamed resort’s pool deck area on five different times across three different days? Let’s go with maybe.

By the way, just to give you an idea on how much walking I’ve been doing, because I’m very proud of it, the apple health app says I’m averaging 12.3 walking miles per day (#humblebrag, #nothumble, #justbragging).

My new facebook profile picture. Yay me

I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few of the things that’ve happened, but I’ve got plenty of time to sit around and write while my friends spend 90 dollars each on a party boat adventure with an open bar that they will almost certainly not be allowed access to.
